Awards

The Peace and Justice Center awards three Peace Awards each year at our annual community dinner to recognize individuals and groups that have made a positive impact in our local area. The 2023 Peace Awards Dinner will be held Thursday, September 21, 2023–the International Day of Peace–at Apple Tree Terrace, 4 Newberry Estates, in Dallas.

The Susan Merrill-Constance Kozel Award is presented to individuals whose contribution to society reflects the principles of justice and peace. The 2023 honorees are Rev. Dr. Robert Zanicky and Rabbi Larry Kaplan. Learn more about the award and awardees here.

The David Frey Community Service for Peace Award honors individuals or groups whose actions have contributed, either by direct support of the mission of the Peace and Justice Center or by making a contribution to the community, to the civic or corporate cause of peace and justice. The 2023 honorees are Robert “Bobby” Hughes, Eastern Pennsylvania Coalition for Abandoned Mine Reclamation (EPCAMR), and Jessica Letteer, Wilkes-Barre Community GardenLearn more about the award and awardees here.

The Athena Smith Ford Student for Peace Award is presented to young people whose academic and extra-curricular activities reflect a commitment to justice and a future of peacemaking. 2023 honorees are Marissa Jason, King’s College, and Lauren Kozicki, West Chester University.
