About Summer 2022 Peace Camp: “Purposeful People”

June 20 to June 24, 2022

Times: 9 AM to 3 PM daily 

Where: Gather Community Space at the First Presbyterian Church on South Franklin Street in Wilkes-Barre.

: Children entering first grade through eighth grade in September 2020 are eligible for Peace Camp 2021.

Registration fee:
$125 per child, with scholarships available for families with multiple children attending camp and for those in need of assistance.

What: Peace Camp activities include the following: 

  • Arts and Crafts Projects
  • Communication Strategies
  • Games for a Healthy Body, Mind, and Spirit
  • Yoga ~ Meditation ~ Music Making
  • Peer Mediation and Community-Building Skills
  • Sustainability and Gardens  

For most activities, children will be divided into age groups (K through 3rd grade and 4th  through 8th grade). Space is limited to 20 children in each group.

About the 2022 Camp Director

The Peace and Justice Center is delighted to welcome back Joli Mattia as the 2022 director of Peace Camp. Ms. Mattia was the director in summer 2021, and also co-led the camp in 2019 and 2020. She is well qualified to make the camp a wonderful experience. Ms. Mattia graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation & Leisure Service Management and from Alvernia University with a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership. She is a certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and a K-6 certified teacher. Ms. Mattia has coached travel soccer teams for two decades and has served as the Twin Valley School District girls soccer coach. She is fully CPR/AED/first aid certified.
